Astragalus (Astragalus Membranaceus) is a perennial flowering plant, native to China. It is one of the 50 fundamental herbs of Traditional Chinese Medicine and as such, has been used for over 2000 years.
Astragalus is primarily used as a boost to the immune system; studies show that it has the potential to increase the body’s production of white blood cells, amongst other immuno-regulatory properties.
Its powerful antioxidant effects have given Astragalus the reputation of supporting the body in healthy ageing. It has been shown to reduce signs of ageing on the face, improving the appearance of fine lines and age spots.
As well as promoting tissue growth, as an adaptogen it can also help the body in dealing with stress and sleep issues. It may also support heart health, and research has shown that it may also have anti-cancer properties.
